Skye,often called The Misty Isle,is much larger than many realise,being around seventy miles from end to end.Nowhere is more than a few miles from the sea and the island is made of a number of fingers jutting into the sea with some spectacular sceenery. In the south Sleat is often called the garden of Skye,softer and more wooded than other parts. From Broadford take the road to Elgol and one of the most dramatic views of the Cuillins. Through the centre of the island the road skirts around the edge of the Cuillins branching to Dunvegan or Portree at Sligachan. Dunvegan is the seat of the MacLeod Clan and home to the mystical Fairy Flag.The Macleod Tables form an impressive backdrop. Portree is the island capital and from here another loop winds around The Trotternish Peninsula passing the dramatic Quairang befor reaching Uig,the ferry terminal for services to The Outer Hebrides. There is a huge diversity of scenery,great walking to suit all abilities and an abundance of wildlife.
